The New Boathouse
A new rowing facility will be built as part of a revitalization project at the
head of the Norwalk River. Construction is in progress. The goal is to be able
to store and care for all of our equipment as well as operate all of our
programs under one roof. While the final design components continue to be
discussed and refined, the new boathouse will feature:
• Easy access to I-95 and ample parking
• Workout space for ergometers and land training
• Changing rooms
• 150-foot dock from which 3 eight-person shells can launch at once
• Boatyard for rigging and cleaning boats
• Offices for the coaches and staff
Why a New Boathouse?
The Association’s rowing facilities have recently been relocated to our
permanent site at One Moodys Lane in Norwalk. Since our inception in 1986, the
association has grown tremendously but our facilities have not. Our move to a
permanent site has allowed us, for the first time, to offer adequate parking,
equipment storage, and dock space. It is still, however, a short-term solution.
We must still go elsewhere for winter training, and our office, restroom, and
storage structures are temporary. It is essential that we build a permanent
boathouse to completely consolidate all of our operations in order to offer a
safe and useful rowing venue for our entire community.
